Oct 08, 2017
Doha, Qatar; October 8, 2017: As the countdown to the fifth edition of the Ajyal Youth Film Festival begins, the Doha Film Institute is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to get involved and contribute to the smooth running of the annual celebration of film, that will welcome thousands of Doha cinema lovers along with regional and international film industry guests.
A unique demonstration of the community spirit fostered by the Doha Film Institute, the Ajyal volunteers will be exposed to the inner workings of a major cultural event, interact with Festival guests and jurors of many nationalities, gain valuable industry experience, and receive a participation certificate to honour their involvement.
During the week-long event from 29 November to 4 December, volunteers will be on hand to support different Festival events and venues located within the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara, and help with all aspects of the Festival’s operations including theatre operations, the Ajyal Jury, transportation, marketing, guest registration, guest relations, hospitality, Geekdom and the Family Weekend among others.
Fatma Al Remaihi, Festival Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Doha Film Institute, said: “The Ajyal Youth Film Festival is more than about showcasing new and acclaimed voices in regional and global cinema; it is also about bringing together the community in a cultural celebration that adds to the pride of our nation.
“In the previous years, our volunteers have played a leading role in the success of the Festival. Their tireless efforts and dedication have been instrumental in making every Ajyal in the past memorable for us and our guests. This event provides community members with a unique opportunity to make new friends, interact with film industry experts and gain rich insights into the functioning of an international cultural event. We have been fortunate to have such an enthusiastic team of volunteers who have contributed every step of the way, and we once again welcome their involvement for our next edition.”
Open to all Qatar residents aged 18 and above, interested candidates can register on the Doha Film Institute website from 9 October onwards at www.dohafilminstitute.com/filmfestival/volunteer.
Ajyal Youth Film Festival is an annual celebration of film, presented by the Doha Film Institute, that is designed to nurture young minds and support the development of mindful global citizens and thoughtful future leaders. At the heart of the festival are the young Ajyal jurors – people aged 8 to 21 – who watch and critique shorts and features, and decide on Ajyal’s winning films.
