Superstar Ragheb Alama entertains Doha audiences at Closing Night Concert for Doha Tribeca Film Festival

(30 October, 2010) Doha, Qatar – Adding a last minute surprise to entertain audiences at the DTFF’s star studded Closing Night, superstar Ragheb Alama performed a free open air concert October 30th at Katara Open Air Theatre after the Closing Night Awards Ceremony and Screening.

The star studded closing night event included the Closing Night Awards ceremony for the DTFF at the Katara Cultural Village where awards were handed out for the Best Arab Film, the Best Arab Filmmaker, two Audience Awards for Best Narrative Film and Best Documentary, and the Best Arab Short Film.

Director Justin Chadwick’s The First Grader, a moving, inspirational educational tale closed the festival at a spectacular outdoor screening.

As part of the concert, Alama performed tracks from his new album Sinin Rayha which released on November 1, 2010 and launched at a spectacular VIP media and industry event at the Buddha Bar in Beirut.

Alama is regarded as one of the most popular Arab singers of the last quarter of the 20th Century. The charismatic and mesmerizing singer has become a musical icon in the Arab world, after rising to prominence in the 1980s. He has been a fixture on the music scene and a key player in the music business in the region for over 25 years and has his own production company BackStage Productions.

He was awarded the Murex D’or award as the best Arab singer and he won the platinum CD award as the best selling Middle Eastern artist in 1992 and 2009.

Earlier this year he recorded a duet with international female singing star Shakira entitled “Good Stuff”.

His most popular hits include Allamtini (1996), Saharuni-al-Layl (2001) and Nassini al-Duniya.
