MENA Premiere of US Box Office Hit ‘Argo’ at DTFF 2012

Nov 04, 2012

DTFF 2012 is offering audiences a sneak preview of the film ‘Argo’, a hostage thriller that captures the real-life events of six American diplomats trapped during the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis. The MENA premiere of Ben Affleck’s film will take place on Wednesday, 21 November at Souq Waqif’s Al Rayyan Theater, offering attendees the chance to experience the excitement of the film before it has its official release in Doha and the region.

Based on events from recently declassified CIA files, ‘Argo’ has received a lot of attention from viewers and critics alike. Told from the perspective of Central Intelligence Agency operative Tony Mendez played by Affleck, ‘Argo’ is a film within a film, which captures an incredible plan to get six Americans out of Iran to safety. The film was co-produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov, who previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed film Good Night and Good Luck. After three weeks of its international release, ‘Argo’ has already earned more than 60 million USD and is heading towards the 100 million dollar mark at the American Box office.

The film does it’s best to capture an historical account of the events and also demonstrates the evolution of Affleck’s filmmaking abilities. ‘Argo’ is predicted to become a front runner in the awards race, particularly the Oscars, and will offer audiences in Doha the chance to attend an exclusive screening of this compelling narrative.
