Hekayat Khaleejiya (Khaleeji Stories) Screens Kuwaiti Box Office Hit 'Tora Bora'

Post Screening Q&A with Kuwaiti Director Walid Alawadi and Actor Saad Al Faraj

Doha, 25 June, 2013: Doha Film Institute’s (DFI) year round series, Hekayat Khaleejiya, returns for the third time with the screening of the successful Kuwaiti box office film, ‘Tora Bora’ (dir. Walid Alawadi, 2011). The award-winning film will be screened on July 4th and 5th at the Museum of Islamic Art Auditorium followed by an extended Q&A session with the director and critically acclaimed actor Saad Al Faraj.

‘Tora Bora’ is the journey of elderly parents in search for their youngest son, who leaves Kuwait to join militant forces in Afghanistan. The elderly parents are not prepared for the suffering and darkness they encounter on their journey through the war-torn country, while their elder son attempts to find his parents and his brother with the aid of Pakistani intelligence. ‘Tora Bora’ is a film about how the mistakes of a son can lead to hardships for an entire family in the Arab society.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see the film which was screened at the 2011 Cannes Film Market and won three awards at the 2013 GCC Film Festival, including Best Feature Film, Best Music and Best Actor for Saad Al Faraj. It also won the Special Jury Award at the Gulf Film Festival in 2012. You will also get the chance to meet with the award-winning filmmaker, Walid Alawadi, whose work includes the documentary ‘A Moment of Time’, which was named Best International Film at the Houston Film Festival and his 9/11 documentary ‘Dreams without Sleep’, which screened at Cannes in 2005. The renowned actor Saad Al Faraj, whose remarkable performance in ‘Tora Bora’ earned him Best Actor at the 2012 Cairo International Film Festival will also be present for the Q&A.

Tickets are now on sale online at www.dohafilminstitute.com/hekayat or in person at the DFI Ticket Outlet at the Museum of Islamic Art (across the auditorium) on Thursday July 4th from 12:00pm to 8:00pm and Friday July 5th from 2:00pm to 8:00pm. Tickets are priced at QAR 35 and QAR 25 for students. (Students must present a valid student ID to receive a discount and there is a maximum of two discounted tickets per person. Discounts are only available at the ticket outlet locations).

‘Hekayat Khaleejiya’ is a quarterly screening series dedicated to showcasing cinematic voices from the Gulf region. Taking place at the Museum of Islamic Art, the series presents films accompanied by Q&A sessions with the filmmakers. It’s a great chance to gain insight into their work and process.
