Day 6: Made in Qatar

Dec 04, 2015

This year at Ajyal we’re welcoming films from 36 countries. But we’re also showcasing some of our homegrown talent in the popular Made in Qatar programme. These 17 short films, made by Qataris and those who call Qatar home, highlight the range of emerging film voices all over our country.

Made in Qatar has many gems this year with films that belong to all genres. The first part of programme screened earlier this week, and tonight (4 December) we’ll see the second selections, followed by the Made in Qatar Awards ceremony.

Programme two includes ‘ target=”_blank”>Charlie’, an inside look at one family’s struggle to help their dyslexic son, and the documentary ‘I Choose Islam’ focuses on the lives of new Muslims in Doha. (See if you can spot the familiar Katara landmarks!) ‘Maryam’ takes an innovative spin on the documentary aesthetic by combining animated segments with interviews, all on the subject of plastic surgery. In the personal doc ‘Immortalizing Memories’ we’re transported to Ateya, a quaint low-rise apartment building in Doha that’s a different world than the city’s soaring towers. Tonight’s programme also features some taut thrillers like ‘Time’ and quietly moving dramas like ‘Good as New’; horror fans shouldn’t miss the clever genre piece ‘Man of the House’. Of course, there’s always some comedy: ‘Asfoora’ and ‘Veganize It!’ are sure to have audiences laughing in their seats.

Join us tonight to celebrate all these Made in Qatar films and support our talented local filmmakers!

Fri, Dec 4, 7:00 PM, Katara Building 16, Drama Theatre (K16-DT)
